Unscreened Fill Dirt
This material will have rocks and other items, such as roots and or brick or block. We do all we can on site to provide you the most suitable unscreened fill dirt for your project. This dirt is ideal when back filling large holes and large grading projects.
Screened Fill Dirt
Screened fill dirt is generally easy to work with and does not present any major difficulties for homeowners when grading. However, you should be aware that it can cost significantly more than unscreened fill dirt. Carefully consider whether screened fill dirt is truly necessary to your project before you begin to help avoid going over your budget. If you can use unscreened fill dirt, you may want to do so if the rest of your project will be costly.
In addition to the expense of screened fill dirt, consider whether the consistency of the dirt will be suitable. We use a 3/4″ screen for our material for the DMV. While screened fill dirt should be sufficient for most home construction projects, you may prefer to use regular fill dirt so that you can complete the project more quickly, as the larger particles will take up more space. These rocks can be more difficult to move, though you may find yourself moving fewer loads of dirt thanks to their size as well.

Organic Screened Topsoil
Did you know? Topsoil is the material that makes the top two to twelve inches of the earth’s surface. Comprised of mineral particles, organic matter, water, and air, topsoil is ideal for improving the condition and appearance of your lawn and garden. In fact, quality topsoil makes a dramatic difference in how your plants derive their nutrients from the ground, and is extremely important to healthy plant life. Without it, the earth’s plant life would disappear.
Tested Compactable Fill Dirt
This material is usually used by Professional Contractors. On building projects, engineers can require the use of tested dirt materials. This material is often necessary with site work and foundations of residential and commercial projects. This can include the placement of tested fill dirt with the placement of engineered retaining walls. Proof of testing will need to be provided to the supervisors of the construction project.

Choosing the Right Fill Dirt for Your Project
When deciding between screened and unscreened fill dirt, it’s essential to consider your project’s specific needs and budget. Unscreened fill dirt is cost-effective and ideal for large grading projects, but it may contain rocks and debris. On the other hand, screened fill dirt offers a consistent, debris-free material that is easier to work with but comes at a higher cost. Carefully evaluate your project requirements and budget to determine which option best suits your needs, ensuring you achieve the desired results without overspending.
