In this brief blog, let me show you how to calculate cubic yards.
For starters we have a basic math formula;
Length (in feet) X Width (in feet) X Depth (in feet) divided by 27 (one cubic yard)
Examples;
10′ x 10′ x 1′ (12 inches) = 100 divided by 27 = 3.70 cubic yards
10′ x 10′ x .5 (6 inches) = 50 divided by 27 = 1.85 cubic yards
20′ x 25′ x 1.5′ (18 inches) = 750 divided by 27 = 27.77 cubic yards

Simple Steps to Calculate Cubic Yards for Your Garden Project
Understanding how to calculate cubic yards is essential for planning your garden projects effectively. By using the basic formula—Length (in feet) x Width (in feet) x Depth (in feet) divided by 27—you can determine the amount of soil or material needed for your space. For example, a 10′ x 10′ area with a 1-foot depth requires 3.70 cubic yards. Whether you’re planning a new garden bed or filling a raised bed, knowing these calculations helps you order the right amount of materials, saving time and money.
